Older than the Most Ancient Sequoia Forest

Older than the Most Ancient Sequoia Forest

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Dedicated to Nikolai Klyuev and Sergei Yesenin

Too often we forget that green has blue

Inside its greenest self.  The blue in green

Is crucial to our understanding of the true.

We think that royal redwoods in a scene

Are lonesome brown and darker greens, forget

As well that brown is all the prime hues mixed.

If we would worship truly, armpit sweat

Must be included in the hair.  This fixed

Agreement is the revelation Job

Would understand in oldest of God’s speech.

Veracity like this is what we probe.

It is the ringing truth that we can reach.

These redwoods are the holy brothers sent

To teach complexity in blended scent.
