The dream that lingers fills the entry way

To closed church doors.  You cannot find the key

One hundred years too late and more.  The sway

Of lost salvation in eternity

Belongs along a Massachusetts street

Set strong beside the cemetery where

Not even ghosts can hear the indiscreet

Old prophetess who hides below the stair

In Elmshaven while swilling down some clams

In chowder.  Milton’s voice in poet Price

Has tried to help you find the one-way trams

To heaven from your unbelieving vise.

They climb the straight and narrow but the door

Slammed shut according to that holy whore.
