Still Unchangeable

“boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away” ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley, “Ozymandias”
The treasures of the pharaohs robbed and robbed
Across millennia still teach us skies
Above the tombs, their nights with stars, are fobbed
Off with religion. Rituals arise
And faith builds monuments of hope that point
With limestone strength to emptiness of truth.
No matter how the hieroglyphs anoint
Tutankhamun, no matter golden youth,
He dies. He never sees the dawn again.
Two thousand years, six hundred plus less one,
An archaeologist restores the pain
Of knowing Tut would never see the sun.
The kings like us will never see night stars
Again. No dead of us will see bright stars.
