Twitching Eyelids
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The flocks of tiny dreams arise from limbs
Where they were sleeping. The bolt and door
That held them in and down are rising hymns
With whir of wings. The dreams and nightmares pour
Subconscious music through synapses tight
Against each other. Angels next to imps
Go flapping through the open cavern night
Becoming bats as sleep begins to glimpse
Escape for soul to leave behind the trap
Of consciousness. Whereas the daydreams’ noon
Allowed, when boys were resting in their nap,
These feral seraphim sing cries of loon.
The flight of subterranean release
Goes fluttering. Visions swell and then release.
