A Treasure, Beauty, Distant, Lost
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
He wants to feel that time again, that time
When morning felt expansion like a wave
That grows; a song that almost strikes a chime
And makes him feel he stands within the nave
Of life, that nave filled up with candle light,
With dawn, with morning breaking over him,
With noon and afternoon, with wings in flight
To holiness, or twilight as a hymn
Of sacred singing and with stars and moon.
He yearns to feel that time again when love
Is promised, promised, promised and then soon
It fills horizons in sun skies above.
He wants to feel and cannot feel that truth
Since it belongs away inside his youth.
