Scimitar and Machine Gun Mentality

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

How men get on together is like strange

And alien creatures facing off in planes

Of fourth-dimension scenes.  These beasties range

Themselves as blocs in groups with different manes

For stallions, some as military men

With crewcuts, some with waxed hair waves,

In leather jackets from the times back when

The motorcycle gangs fought, some from caves

Religions carved for them in eons long

Ago.  Men tend to like their guns and knives

Of different shape and size that they can prong

Each other’s guts with after pronging wives.

To keep themselves from fighting, they tell jokes,

But then go back to slaughtering guys with strokes.
