Pay Attention to the Flowers

Pay Attention to the Flowers

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Let not one flower of spring go past your eye

Unseen.  Let not one rose of June go past

Unsmelled.  Let every lilac leave its dye

Of purple, lavender, or cream, hues cast

Around by carelessness of evening light.

Each daisy is a duke in miniature,

Each morning glory vine an errant knight

Awaiting for a lady to allure

Him to embroidered bower.  A star

In every orchid underneath the dark

Of jungle trees, a tropical crowned czar

Awaiting in your heat needs heart’s remark.

Don’t miss the Venus Flytrap’s blossomed scape

Despite the tiny carnivore’s bug rape.
