The Reason Bamboo was Created

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The long thick tubes that rise and dominate

Were first created by a certain God,

Perhaps an Oriental one whose fate

Required him to be oddly to be overawed.

Gods do not like to lose their sovereign power

But this creation forced divinity

To lean against the ordinary flower

And petal beauty.  His affinity

Assumed a masculinity of length

Of ages, holding off the femaleness

As long as he could manage it.  His strength,

Triumphant, stretches wide utter maleness.

The stands that he created right across

The globe cause him to acquiesce to loss.
