Gods of Poetry

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The glint that grows to poetry from gods

Glares out to glisten on the tongue of one

God, Odin.  On the tongue of Bragi lauds

Of luminescence of the wars men won

Are carved.  His breath across his lips flares out

To greet dead heroes as they come to be

With Odin and with Bragi.  Poems shout

From him.  Blood’s deeds in battle make him free

To glory in the gore of carnage, sing

Of slaughter and the slashing through of hearts,

Berserk barbarity in butchering

Of babies, boys and mayhem of their parts.

The mead that Odin drank spews out in verse

So glorious it groans to godly curse.
