Hermaphrodites Spiralling on the Catwalk of the Ocean Floor
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The sacoglassin sea slug settles by
The spiral of its eggs, a slime of pearls.
Slug purposes aim not to beautify.
S(h)e doesn’t work for Galliano swirls
Dior might foist upon French ladies’ eyes.
S(h)e doesn’t want the French to eat those those eggs.
S(h)e doesn’t think of deep space spiral skies
Of galaxies with spiral arms and legs.
S(h)e only lays those offspring in their jewels
Spun round in whirls more beautiful than haute
Couture on skin-deep calves that swish the rules
Of fashion as the models almost float.
S(h)e wants eggs’ parcelled DNA to swing
To lovely living, taking seaborne wings.
