Plenitude
Winter seclusion:
Once again I lean against
This monk-like black post.
~ Bashô

When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed;
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

~ Shaker hymn

Thoreau and countless hearts and brains

   Walden Pond

Have taught us.  We are lead to make the choice.

We choose, or not, a life made up of stains

And shadows (Plato).  Teachers say, “Rejoice

In less, simplicity, in basic things,

Not yachts and gilded mansions.  Elon Musk

Cannot provide a car with angel wings.

No truffles are required.  A bit of rusk

Will keep your soul alive.  Lean back against

A post, a black one, Bashô says, and write

Your haikus, think and ponder.  You are fenced

Away from greed then.  Jesus says that’s right.

The Buddha said it, first.  The Shakers danced

And sang it, tangoing a life enhanced.
