Writing Iago and Macbeth
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
We know the truest playwrights, poets see
The world through lenses not their own, but through
The organs of the characters they free
Up on the stage. These poets drink a brew
That gives them synesthetic insight in
The minds and hearts of heroes, makes the pen
Bring out the scheming of the villain’s sin
And see like women tend to see their men.
Yet more than that these poets each become
The creatures they are working up with ink
And that so thoroughly that these succumb
To being beings even as they stink.
A female poet needs not be a male.
She feels his part, could even be a snail.
[The poet prompted AI to make an image of the young Shakespeare dressed as Juliet with Romeo. Judge for yourself.]
