The loveliness which shapes the look of shells

On snails is something snails can never clasp.

Their sense of beauty has no swelling wells.

If it exists at all, this sense can’t gasp

To let us know that snails are touched by awe

Of grace or splendor, since a snail can’t see

The shell it humps along.  Instead they paw

Around with tentacles.  No jamboree

Of vision ever comes.  They see some light

And shade, enough to note a predator

Might be around, but since no chance of flight

Occurs, the snail is like an editor

Who can’t respect a difference in the slime

Of free verse and a lovely poem’s rhyme.
