Venus Has No Moons

  Venus Has No Moons

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Now speak to me, my beauty, with the voice

Of love.  Speak love to me as if a globe,

A moon of Venus, might make love rejoice

Inside my sternum.  Lift your lunar robe

And speak in whispers that my heart can hear.

Speak bass-like as an actor sure of love.

My innards will respond. Seduce my ear,

You non-existent orb, from swing above

My willingness, from circling path to make

Me follow you like helpless tides and seas.

Your voice alone in love will shift and shake

Me.  It alone my heart will, helpless, seize.

All planets in my chest like liquid will

Go sloshing towards you.  All my blood must spill.
