The Escaping Sickly Pet
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
I walk about unseeing. Mistress feeds
Me mushy food and munchy food. I taste
Them both and do not see them. All my needs
She notices, she thinks about, has placed
My dishes for me where I reach them, not
One difficulty, so I purr. I purr
And then she picks me up. I purr on hot
And lovely lap. I purr. She strokes my fur
And I in purring darkness wait till when
She lifts me up and takes me to the door.
She sets me down in sightless garden. Then
I stumble in the place I knew before.
She takes me to a man. Needle goes in.
I enter other darkness lacking sin.
