The Clarity of Eternity

The Clarity of Eternity

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

O, welcome, pure-eyed Faith, white-handed Hope,

Thou hovering angel, girt with golden wings.

          ~ John Milton

His faith is zircon-perfect letting in

All truths, more perfect than the best B’hai

Though this perfection fails to see the sin

In failing to find filters for the eye

Of mysticism.  He has lost the lens

That filters out the prejudice of God.

Broadmindedness accepts the clear ink pens

Of prophets, false ones, who find people awed

With Sinai-like pronouncements set in stone

That say, “Drink Kool-Aid in your jungle.  Find

The path to immortality, the zone

Of Heav’n, through cyanide with truth aligned.”

Jim Jones and David Koresh are the end

Of insights using faith and lies, their blend.
