Like the Wide Space in the Constellation Orion the Gate of Love Is Opened
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
I Samuel 18:1
His love as if in coma was asleep
But, lapsed inside synapses, was awake,
Inside his heart within his ribs as deep
As Jonathan’s and David’s loves’ deep ache
Was conscious in unconsciousness. God’s cue
Might rouse it with the luster of black hair
In curlings like dark galaxies of blue,
Black spiralled blue, dark stars, not just a pair
Though pairing was the astrophysics aim,
Or maybe it was more like knitting souls
Together as in cool star curves of flame,
Archangels sharing navigation poles.
At last came hair as perfect and as long
As love would ever want and Black Hole strong.
