Needy Need as Doctrine
“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” ~ Psalm 33:6
Imagine if you couldn’t think, as free
As God, the classic God of Christian thought,
As if there weren’t the high sublimity
Of fact and reason never caught or fraught
By rank religion stinking of the fear
Of death. Back then the great ex nihilo
Was nihilo. Yes, nihilo. No smear
Of God existed. There was no “although”
Or “maybe.” There was nothing. That’s the fact.
There certainly was not a God, or God
Was nothing. He could never breathe or act.
To “reason” otherwise is blankly odd.
Because He was impossible, we need
Him, say the priests. That’s the coward’s creed.
