Liberty Azure
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
If he had worn a mantle of the blue
Of navy skies, that mantle would have been

An honesty of love — but then in lieu
Of loving fully. Lovers should have seen
That honesty as velvet to prepare
His way to love with others, not with them.
His unteared eyes above that cloak would stare
At other loves. That mantle had a hem
Which hid his feet when they were walking past
His lover to another realm above
That lover, to a love he hoped more vast
Than what he had with her, his current love.
His one requirement was that blue must be
Inside his lovers’ eyes, but he was free.
