Daydream Uselessness

Daydream Uselessness

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

He has two giant Oriental fans

Propped up beside his bookcase and his main

Computer screen.  He has to save spread spans

From feline selfishness.  A tomcat’s brain

Has been precision engineered by God

To find a place to cause annoyance.

If fans were laid down flat, then they’d be clawed

Or slept upon.  A clear clairvoyance

Ensures the cat would lie upon their screens.

He’d flop upon the fans and crush their folds

For comfort.  He would crush their graceful scenes

Beneath his nap upon their blues and golds.

Flamboyance of fans means nothing much

To him.  He dreams a robin’s in his clutch.
