Carved in Stonelessness

Carved in Stonelessness

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

A spirit splayed through vacuum,* a ghost

Through heavens, long filled up eternity

And spacelessness.  The cosmos is engrossed

In this.  This splay hit wide supernity,

Met atoms and mere times, then turned to fill

These two as well.  Mere matter and mere time

Must fail to gauge it.  Holiness must spill

Beyond their boundaries.  Holiness sublime

Unlimited is perfect.  It is like

A wraith that ever lived and never dies.

This deathlessness and sacredness alike,

No start or end, is like God’s boundless skies.

This spirit slips through punctual because

Of Edens everywhere — and spirit laws.

* The poet pronounces this as three syllables.
