The Cosmic Roulette Wheel
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
We choose among beginnings that we want
To build our faith on. Some seize science. Some
Choose God or gods. The older faiths all vaunt
Their many deities, the Hindu sum
Uncountable. In Egypt unknown time
Elapsed while Pharaohs said the sun god Ra
Was ultimate, while science says that slime
Is our beginning. Then came tooth and claw
And atom bombs. The Jews say only One
God matters. Muslims disagree and yet
Agree. Again, not wanting gods to shun,
B’Hai says all are right. Just place your bet.
Your start and my beginning claim the same
Result. We always want to kill and blame.
