You Know the Moment

You Know the Moment

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

A loneliness without a name, intense

In length but mild, vanilla in your soul

You cannot find with fingers, or in sense

Of words its meaning.  It is like the pole

You never reach in roaming through a sky

Above the farthest planet, comet tail

Of phosphorescent love beyond your eye

As part of long emotion if you sail

Forever as in never.  In your heart

You know it and you cannot know it.  You

And it are separate.  You know your part,

But as to it . . . it is a separate blue.

It dwells inside you but it lingers far

Away, a distant and internal star.
