Heroic happenings in legends bear
A factuality more sacred than
Plain data. The cutting of Samson’s hair
Is consequential to his threatened clan
And so it resonates like horns across
The walls of Jericho. A monster yanks
Thighs out of sockets. Humans’ blood is sauce
To it. The gobbler bites and chews the shanks
Of men while they are still alive. The hero throws
Himself to fight that mouth. He does not blench
And seeks the mother in her den. The blows
Of magic sword bring out a fatal stench.
..The power of legend is completely free
….Of fact. True George chops down a cherry tree.
