The Scat of Jazz, “Bee-bop,” Scoo-bee Do, and “Doo-dah”

The Scat of Jazz, “Bee-bop,” Scoo-bee Do, and “Doo-dah”

“Truth is so rare, it is delightful to tell it.” ~ Emily Dickinson

The Faiths all tell one serpent lie, that death

Is something else, that death is not the end,

That when your lungs breathe in your lush last breath

That you will be alive around a holy bend,

That like the Serpent said . . . you will not die;

That true religion died with him.  Your soul

Lives on and on, that you will live and fry

In Hell — or in Christ Jesus’ sacred goal

You’ll hymn in Heaven for Eternity.

The doctrine of the soul (a lie) is at

Faiths’ base.  That is the false supernity.

That doctrine hugs that Serpent’s slyest scat.

  The Truth is plain, so rare that few embrace

    It.  Few have heart to look it in its face.
