The Mount of Transfiguration and the New Jerusalem in a Romantic Symphony

The Mount of Transfiguration and the New Jerusalem in a Romantic Symphony

We make a mirror lacking silver for

The one we love.  We make the backing gold

Instead and see the image made.  The score

That we compose behind the glass is old

As any love that men conceive.  That love

Illumines lover’s eyes to mountain height,

As old and new, as rightness are above

And more prophetic than a savior’s right.

The countenance that we behold is changed

Because surrounding precious metal tones

With it.  What others saw is re-arranged

Because the tain was sent from heaven’s zones.

Perhaps the glass is made from diamond too.

Transparent gold lets loveliness come through.
