The Beginnings and the End

 The Beginnings and the End

Why is it that the dark is at the start,

Like bats in caverns, always?  “Let there be

Light” presupposes black.  The human heart

Is desperate and wicked.  (Who can see

That?  Everyone who thinks.)  The sperm that made

You came from darkness and was shot through dark

To night.  The tyrant’s guts receive the blade

In blackness.  An assassin’s blade seeks stark

Emancipation, righteous in its needs,

But that appears inside the despot’s end.

Green living crops begin with deep set seeds

And every living creature will descend,

Degraded, underneath the ocean wave,

And feed the lowest forms there in a cave.
