We light this candle near the nave for one

Long gone, long missed.  Cathedral darkness flees

Away from candle prayer.  A light the sun

Cannot compete with lifts up candle pleas

For one, a Catholic Christian, deep, devout,

Now spoken of in candle flame.  Its prayers

Go on long after we have left, are out

In Paris and forget.  We climb the stairs

In Printemps, he forgotten, but the fire

Goes on in Notre Dame a faithful beam

Of praying, carrying intense desire

From us to heaven in one holy gleam.

Forgotten, not forgotten he might see

    It glowing, praying, holding memory.
