Pelops

Pelops

The dish that Tantalus served up to gods

And goddesses degraded every gift

Presented since, to anyone.  The odds

Of ever matching it were cut adrift

By knives inside his kitchen.  How compete

With such a present?  Even South Sea tribes

Don’t serve their kith and kin, and so that treat

You bought a friend just doesn’t give the vibes

Required to make an impact large enough.

That Tantalus has trumped us, everyone.

No matter how we wrap and ribbon stuff,

It cannot ever hope to be THAT fun!

Since Europe’s kings ate human body parts,

We might as well not roll out shopping carts.
