Pearl Strivers

Pearl Strivers

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The higher realm of brains attempts to bring

Our serpent selves to where our seraph wings

Desire to elevate us, but each wing

Is dragged down by our mental underlings,

The reptile parts of mind.  We struggle, fight

And slope away from higher things.  We turn

Away from our nobility, the right

That levitates above where lower nature burns

Up energy to pull us far away

From beauty.  Saint Cerebrum pulls us up

From serpent nastiness.  Eternal day

Is what saints want.  Christ’s chalice is their cup.

They offer it.  We sin against it, then

Our godly parts shape spheres as pearl-like men.
