“One Soul in Bodies Twain” and Diaghilev’s “one in private life”

“One Soul in Bodies Twain” and

  Diaghilev’s “one in private life”

The ocean of men’s friendships spreads too vast

For those who think about it to presume

To use taxonomies which tend to cast

One sinkered net across love’s waves and spume,

One flaring circle that contains love’s all.

Millennia have come and gone with ‘one’

                                               Vaslav Niginsky

The term employed to contain the sprawl

Of feelings shared by two.  It is a gun

Instead with scattershot that cannot hope to hit

The bull’s eyes of the many targets males

Construct in amity.  Men won’t submit

To unity.  Variety’s wide scales

Are there to measure contradictions, lengths,

And loyalties across a range of strengths.
