Morning Revelation

Morning Revelation

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

He wakes to beauty in the morning light.

He wakes to beauty there above his sheets.

It is as if a scene with candlelight

Of love has filled his bed and love competes

With everything against it.  There a head

Of hair beyond comparison awaits

His eye and sanctifies the rumples, bed

And drowsiness from love.  The dawning’s gates

Reveal romance’s face in front of eyes,

His undeserving eyes perceiving limbs

Still hidden under cloth.  The black surprise

Calls Muses to implore the words of hymns.

The way the early light imposes grace

Is worship-like upon pink lips and face.
