Lacking Almost All Common Sense when Combined…and After that Too Late

Lacking Almost All Common Sense when Combined…and After that Too Late

“Where the white cliffs were ghostlike in the dawn,

And after dawn were deathlike.” ~Lancelot, Edwin Arlington Robinson

If only Arthur and poor Paul had read

Those words by Robinson, they might have had

The sense to stay away and keep their bed

Some other place than London.  Just how bad

Their lives would be thereafter, London, there

In Camden and Belgravia, and on

And on thereafter, probably then their

Good sense would have protected from that dawn

Of evil everywhere they went and died.

But sense was never what they had, not Paul,

Pathetic Paul, completely lacking pride,

Or Arthur who had chosen to appall

Everyone everywhere from Paris on

And on, ignoring Dover’s warning dawn.
