I Will Pin a Poem

       I Will Pin a Poem

Upon my shroud I’ll pin a line before
I pass away, the best one that I wrote
In all my life.  I’m sure that it, not more,
Will be enough to get me past the moat
Of paradise.  I’ll show it to the guard
There on the bank.  He’ll signal to the armed
One at the gate.  The drawbridge, made of hard
Religions, sorry they have killed and harmed
So many men, will slowly open.  I’ll
Take back my rhyming passport and then make
My way to God.  He’ll read it with a smile
And say, “Seize him and tie him to the stake.”
..It’s only then that I will understand

….How poets light and warm that higher land.
