The lotus with its petals made of words

Grows, blooming what the poet wants, a glow,

Enlightenment in lines like sunlight birds,

Not just a putti Eros with a bow

And  burnished golden arrowheads . .  . but more,

Satori trees with limbs and leaves that vaunt

Across the mind.  Launched phoenixes that soar

Are what the Shakespeares and the Homers want.

Pied pinions are results of petaled sight,

Of leaves from cosmic roots, of Saint John’s eyes

Beside the Buddha, all of one bright height,

Of something far above the light years’ skies.

  Exposing sonnets and our villanelles

    Are revelations ringing spirit bells.
