The Earth was said to have four corners when

The Bible first appeared in Jewish minds.

My mind has just four corners.  Its amen

Is melancholy, but I pull the blinds.

Another corner’s full of gossip from

The past, not just my own.  The scuttlebutt

Of ancients smells good too.  I lick a crumb

From Rome about who had a luscious slut.

The nineteenth century gave us Byron who

Loved everyone who had a butt like Paul

Verlaine.  Another corner holds a stew

Of brainy stuff, but that’s all in a scrawl.

The fourth is poetry and high-flown lit

….Which tastes to me like toothsome Holy Writ.
