“Fingering of Instruments” and “Hidden from Penetration”; Paired Sonnets

      Fingering of Instruments

So, we are made of dust; at least we men

Are.  God created us from dust.  He bound

The dust together with some liquid.  Then

He made us breathe.  Between our thighs two round

Or oval things he hung.  He must have meant

For us to use them.  Since they dangle there,

We use our fingers to approach consent

For us to help them find a place where hair

Invites their seeds to go.  We smell the runes

Inviting us.  We trace the nubbled spots

That swell outside the ribs.  Desire balloons.

Electrical jangles generate watts.

God must have used his armpit sweat to turn

The dust to sculptured mud.  It makes them burn.

   Hidden from Penetration

What Eve was made of isn’t all that clear.

The Bible says she came from Adam’s bone.

The whole of her was made of rib.  A mere

Rib, bone and marrow, is what made this clone

Not quite a clone.  Which parts of her were made

Of bone and which of marrow?  We just have

To guess.  Was she concocted like brocade

With raised up bits?  And why decide to halve

Her off from Adam’s denim 501s with their

Brass buttons on the fly?  Was marrow used

To make her juicy, softer parts?  And where

Did female hair come from?  Was God amused

To make from bone the hair between her thighs?

Was that hung there to hide from bony spies?
