Drowsing Comfort

Why is it that a dog asleep is not

Endearing as a cat curled up to nap?

That isn’t logical.  A doggy ought

To be as cute.  A poochie on your lap

And curled into doggie dreams, should be

As sweet as Ragdoll kitten twitching on

Your thighs.  The gentle-breathing closed-eyed glee

Is shared between the beast and you.  The furry yawn,

The stretching pink-pawed claws, the little shift,

Or half roll, indicates a perfect calm

And joy.  You watch luxuriating drift

Back into bliss become a soundless psalm.

Returning to your bedroom later you

See lolled eyes look up and give a silent mew.
