Deep Love

                  Deep Love

You need some sort of bathysphere to keep

Harm walled from overwhelming emotion.

You need some sort of diving bell in deep,

Steep love to save from harm of devotion.

There’s gloom in fathoms and in dooming love.

In muddy river water as the foot

Goes in, watch that nothing gives a shove

Or otherwise your heart will be kaput.

Presentiment should call out, “Fold your arms

And bow your head and think—before you let

Your step be christened with that water’s harms.

The sentiment required is, “Watch the threat

Of full immersion in deep passion’s rite.

There’s hardly any other deeper plight.
