Cypress, Jasmine, Orange Blossoms

Cypress, Jasmine, Orange Blossoms

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The cypress tree that raises roots above

Those swamps beyond the space port launch and far

Away from gantries and gigantic shove

Of boosters, cypress’ dreaming of a star

Beyond the pox marked moon, the cypress height

Held onto by the Spanish moss afraid

Of hurricane or coming buzz saw bite

Is juxtaposed with jasmine and the shade

Of orange trees’ fragrance.  In the graveyard death

Awaits gardenia women planting hope.

These combinatons of the blossoms’ breath

Help chanting aunts and other doomed ones cope.

The rockets send their thunder through the air

As men pretend that they can thwart death’s snare.
