Buddhas Better than Methuselah

Buddhas Better than Methuselah

If you become a buddha, would you know
It? Would you suddenly break through the world
To calm sublimity, escape the flow
Of suffering and time that long has swirled
Around your body and your soul and in
Them? If you made this leap, would you be last

To know it, others near you still in sin
Acknowledging your sainthood as the vast
Untroubled beauty that it is? Would you
Go onward unaware that you had breached
The impasse? Cloudless skies of silent blue
Would suck you upward, leaving others beached
Behind you on the shore of drunken earth,
But you won’t care, beyond mere pain and mirth.
