Blonde Rosebuds
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Beyond the rosebuds or the deaths in gas
In Auschwitz and beyond translucent trails
Snails leave behind, beyond the ice crevasse

Of Everest and beyond black cobra scales,
Beyond the mystic’s naked angels ranged
As mystic’s facts, beyond the honey bees
In dance to show where nectar waits arranged
In blooms, beyond the sculptured marble frieze
Above democracy in Athens, far
Beyond a slide of microscope’s lens scene,
Beyond equations and a lab desk’s jar,
We hope to learn what living life might mean.
The reason poetry exists is for
The unheard symphony’s resounding score.
