Black and White Segregation

  Black and White Segregation

The Sabbath is entirely to itself.

We make it stranger to the other days.

We place the Sabbath on a sacred shelf

And close the cupboard door.  Its windows glaze

The Sabbath off, though, notionally, it

Can look through glass to see unholy times,

And what we do in them, sins we commit,

And such like stuff.  We think that all our crimes

Don’t matter since our strictness keeps that day

Apart and since we go to church and grace its pews

In holy suits and ties.  We sing and pray

And listen to the separate Gospel news.

..We leave the Sabbath in its holy space,

….Locating goodness in its backseat place.
