Beautiful Beyond Your Lips

Beautiful Beyond Your Lips

Modern poetry  modern verse  contemporary poetry  contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

An apple high above, up on a limb
Where dawn can see it earlier than you
Will ever know, awaits. The tree may brim
With other fruit but still that one which grew
Beyond your reach will trouble you at night.
The breeze blew strong to bend the arching bough
But not enough. The apple in the light
Of heart’s desire perturbs the sleeping brow

Above your twinging eyelids when night’s sky
Has darkened down the clouded moon. An itch
To stretch and grasp remains there in your eye.
A yearning makes the thwarted heartbeat twitch.
..A dawn that cannot be approached remains
….A dawn though bruised with disappointment’s stains.
