Bāneh

                        Bāneh

The Zagros Mountains hold the city near

In beauty.  In the sun it opens like

A sunflower, bright and rich.  In winter clear

Light shows the buildings.  Snow-sped sunbeams strike

It into greater loveliness beneath

Ice peaks.  In spring white blossoms dress the trees

For celebration in the parks.  A wreath

Of limbs like snow is moved there by a breeze

Above the paths where people wander through

The April scene and all year round the rows

And groves, hard oaks, reach up towards the blue

Of heaven.  Bāneh’s beauty always grows.

..An oak or sunflower, which?  Perhaps this place

….Is both at once, exposing strength and grace.
