The triton seashells manifest as far

More beautiful than Triton merman god

Could ever be.  Charonia, bizarre

In shape and flare, a visual ballade,

Those shells are lovelier in form with lips

Of decoration than Poseidon might

Have been if poets ever gave nymph hips

To him.  The sea divinity at height

Of Greek mythology could never be

As gorgeous as Charonia.  Their sweeps

Of spirals are a pure theosophy

Not twisted by a maddened mystic’s leaps.

  Perhaps an Amphitrite could have made

    A shell more radiant like seashore maid.
