A Florida Boy Feels Destiny While Approaching Hartford and Knows the Healing of Blue Wounds Under Connecticut’s Blue Sky
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem con “the blueness of a wound” ~ Proverbs 20:30
The car that took him through the Gotham streets
And gave a glimpse to goggling tourist eyes
Of Johnny Mathis (think pop music beats)
Then swerved him to the Merritt Parkway’s skies
Revealed to him the land that he had long
Imagined through its poets. It was not
Spectacular, no rock-bound coast, no song
Of Pilgims full of bracing hope and fraught
With fervent prayers. Instead his vision saw
An autumn slope beside the interstate
And on it one New England pheasant, claw

And copper breast. Both felt the warmest fate.
He knew that he was home at last, at home
Where he should be below long history’s dome.
