White and Black Separation

White and Black Separation

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Though strange, the truth remains, as strange as blue

Of irises in black man’s face.  The truth

Is loneliness occurs in nature.  Jazz blue

Is not as lonely as a cavern’s tooth

Of calcium in darkness, never seen

By eyes and ever separated from

The white of other teeth.  Within this scene

Ten eons in the making is the thrum,

The silent thrum of solitude.  The crowd,

Stalactites all around, is even worse

In loneliness all trapped inside the shroud

Of black, eternal sentence uttered, terse.

A birch tree black and white in autumn’s snow

Stands loveliest where aisles in birch groves grow.
