The Serpent and Adam as One

The Serpent and Adam as One

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The spiral made of gemstones round the eye

Of Aztec Quetzalcoatle, a blue,

Hard turquoise spiral means to glorify

A god of evil and of good, a true

Theology, pastel and solid, stiff

The synthesis.  This god went down to hell

To heave the dead ones up.  This hieroglyph

Raised crushed down souls and caused them all to dwell

As humans in the living sphere.  He made

The truth that we are evil, good, combined,

And cruel mixed with beauty, beams and shade

Forever, complication, both aligned.

Forever Freud and Jung are trapped within

This certainty of fact of myth with sin.
