Like a River in Eden or Like the New Jerusalem’s Crystal Sea

Like a River in Eden or Like the New Jerusalem’s Crystal Sea

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

When water sweeps, it swirls, one thing, whole,

Like God — and — Christ — and — Holy — Spirit, One.

If water be divided, it is soul

Still undivided, truer than the sun.

A pole divides the water for a spell

But never, really, since before that post

And after it, flows unity like Hell.

That flow is like the cosmic Holy Ghost.

The water, pole-divided, comes as flow

Unbroken.  It was water in its force

Before, continues as itself as though

The pole is nothing as it is, of course.

The past is nothing to the flowing stream,

    The water —  is —  in —  iceberg —  flood —  and —  steam.
